The Olympics have been a very fun time! It is great that they are being held in a similar time zone to Australia and I am able to follow everything at a reasonable hour. I’ve had some success betting on some of the events, with a number of long shots getting home. A few times I’ve had to bet against my own country, but the wins have softened the blow when Australia misses out on gold.

Had a smallish bet on Russia at the start of the Euro 2008 tournament at odds of $34! Now they are in the semi-finals they are available at $4.90 on BetFair. I decided to lay a little off to realise some value, but for the most part the bet rides.

Brutal Sports Betting Weekend

I forgot to blog about this the other day, but this past weekend was particularly brutal when it came to sports betting. I went 0 for 10 bets, which sucks in itself, but the way it happened hurt. Ernie Els held a two shot lead going into the final hole and he triple bogey choked. In the Australian PGA, Sabbatini was leader going into the final round and then completely dropped his bundle and didn’t even place. BetFair doesn’t allow in-play betting on golf to be done over the Internet, otherwise I would have hedged both, but I just couldn’t be bothered doing it over the phone. The last few months of betting have surely been a roller coaster and now I’m back to break even (down when you consider the subscriptions I pay for). Hopefully, in the next few weeks I can end the year on a high.

An Amazing Night of Sports Betting

As I have mentioned in the blog before, the last couple of months Hui and I have been experimenting with sports betting, we have been following a number of free and subscription sports betting services as well as a few well versed tipsters. It has been a slow process, but we had slowly build up to a profit of about US$1700 only to have a bit of a downswing to about +$1000. Well last night we had a lot of action on, and we were on fire. The first bet of note was $80 on St. George Illawarra at $5.50. The mathematical system we have to forecast the results of games had the Dragons at 42% to win, yet they were at these massive odds in a two horse race. Hence, the system loaded up on them and thankfully they managed to come through. Other bets that came good on the night were Fremantle at a line of +12.5 Volandri to beat Ljubicic and Penrith to win the other NRL game. We still have a lot of action for the rest of the weekend, but last night was definitely a night that motivates me to work harder at finding bets with big overlays
