Full-Ring Friends Series: Jackk Frost

Welcome to my brand new blog series where I conduct an interview a no limit full-ring cash game regular that I have become friends with over my time as a player in those games. My first guest is Jackk Frost who plays mainly on PokerStars and is an active 2+2 poster in the ‘Small Stakes Full-Ring’ forum. I’d like to thank him for taking the time to answer my question and for being my first guest!

Tell me a bit about your poker story, how you came to be involved in online poker and what made you choose full-ring no limit games.
I’ve been playing for about 5 years and about 1-1 1/2 seriously. I got started playing home games with friends and then started playing online. I quit my job in June to turn pro and have enjoyed it very much.
I mostly play full ring because I also play live and thats pretty much all the casino’s spread is full ring.

What are some of the major breakthroughs and leaks that you have plugged in order to get the point of playing solid winning poker? I have been working on my non-showdown winnings lately mostly trying to improve them and opening up my game. As well I try to make friends with some of the players whom I have allot of respect for their game and chat with them and pick their brains as much as possible.

What is your vision for online poker in five to ten years time? Do you see a licensed and regulated industry in the United States? Will the player pool be bigger or smaller? What impact will new technologies have on software and the way we play?
I definitely see online poker continuing to thrive and I do see the U.S. at least making it legal for us to play. I think the player pool will stabilize and possibly grow some if/when online poker becomes legal again in the U.S.

I’m not real sure of what new technologies will be coming out but I do wish the sites would do a better job of security that seems to be where they all drop the ball.

How many hours a week do you generally put in at the tables?
I turned pro at the of June this year and haven’t taken a day off yet. I’m not a mega grinder but I like to play everyday and I would say I definitely put in 40+ hours a week.

What are the best and worst aspects of being a poker player?
Well the only bad aspect of poker is down swings they can really mess with you mentally it’s important to not let that happen. I think the best aspect of poker is that it’s fun and very profitable.

What are some of the hobbies and interests you have away from poker that keep you level?
I like to try to get out and do a little fishing or hunting here and there work around the house and even just watching a moving or playing with my son are all great way’s to get away from poker.

What do your family (both immediate and extended) think of your poker playing?
My family didn’t really say a whole lot when I told them I was quitting my job to play poker. They knew I was doing good at it and I think they all knew I would do okay. Now that it’s been a few months
I get a lot of questions like how much do I make and they wonder if I get tired of it and a lot of people ask me when I’m going to be on T.V. I guess that all they have to relate to when they think of poker.

$200frnl has been your regular game for a while, but recently you have been taking some shots at $400frnl. How has that been going and what are the major differences you have noticed between the two stakes?
400nl is going good, my win rate so far at 90k hands is about 1bb/100 higher than my 200nl win rate which seems surprising. I think the biggest difference is the regulars are a lot better and they definitely don’t make as many mistakes as the 1/2nl regulars as well they are ready to capitalize on any mistakes you make.

As a PokerStars Supernova VIP what changes do you think could be made to the VIP program to improve it?
Well I would like to see maybe a middle ground tier for say players that can’t make elite I think this would promote a lot of part time player to maybe play a little more.

What would another site, like Full Tilt Poker, have to offer you in order to switch your play?
I think the only thing keeping me from playing at FTP is the fact that they have so many problems getting cash outs to U.S. players.
