Sweating $10/$20nl with WCG|Rider

Yesterday, I had the pleasure and privilege of being able to sweat my good friend WCG|Rider as he played some $10/$20nl full ring and 6-max. It was an interesting insight into higher stakes and the thought processes Doug goes through when he plays a hand. Recently, he has been experimenting with open min-raising in all positions at full-ring so it was good to see that in action.

We played against some very well known professionals like Leatherass, but overall the play at full ring didn’t seem all that superior to 3/6nl. I’m not as well versed at 6-max, but from what I saw those games were a lot more aggressive and hard to find tables with fish.

Here are a couple of the big hands that went down… I’m interested to get some feedback on the second one. My thoughts are that he has a hand QQ-99 and a turn double barrel may well have taken it down. An altogether weird spot thought…

PokerStars No-Limit Hold’em, $20.00 BB (5 handed) – Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com
SB ($2000)
BB ($4152)
UTG ($4400.50)
MP ($2262)
Hero (Button) ($2000)

Preflop: Hero is Button with 6, A
1 fold, MP raises to $60, Hero calls $60, 1 fold, BB calls $40

Flop: ($190) 9, J, 3 (3 players)
BB checks, MP bets $140, Hero raises to $470, 1 fold, MP raises to $2202 (All-In), Hero calls $1470 (All-In)

Turn: ($4070) 7 (2 players, 2 all-in)

River: ($4070) 8 (2 players, 2 all-in)

Total pot: $4070 | Rake: $2
Hero mucked 6, A (high card, Ace).
MP had 8, J (two pair, Jacks and eights).

Outcome: MP won $4068

PokerStars No-Limit Hold’em, $20.00 BB (6 handed) – Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com
Button ($4753)
SB ($2883)
Hero (BB) ($2572)
UTG ($3867)
MP ($5725)
CO ($5375)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q, A
UTG raises to $60, 1 fold, CO calls $60, Button calls $60, SB calls $50, Hero raises to $300, 1 fold, CO calls $240, 2 folds

What range are you putting this guy on when he calls and UTG raise UTG+1 and then calls a 3-bet out of the blinds in this situation? Villain was a solid regular for what it is worth.

Flop: ($780) 2, K, 5 (2 players)
Hero bets $300, CO calls $300

Turn: ($1380) 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $690, Hero folds

Total pot: $1380 | Rake: $3
CO didn’t show
Outcome: CO won $1377

Thoughts on this hand in general would be appreciated!
