Australia vs. India – 1st Test Preview

The first test match between Australia and India gets underway in Bangalore tomorrow. This is a much anticipated re-match after what went down in the series that was held in Australia last summer. Australia won that series 2-1, but it is going to be a far more difficult task playing away from home. This is an Australian team which has very little experience playing on the sub-contintent and thus faces an uphill battle to overcome an up and coming young Indian side. Traditionally, Australia’s batsmen have struggled to get on top of the spin bowling on the dusty tracks. The good news is that the pitch in Bangalore looks fast and bouncy, which is a turn up for the books.

I’m particularly looking forward to seeing if Cameron White plays and how he goes. It would be great to see a Victorian establish himself in the test team. Andrew Symonds and Shane Watson have left an opening and I really hope that White can capitalise by scoring some runs and keeping things tight when he gets a chance to bowl.

If Ricky Ponting can somehow lead Australia to victory on this tour it will surely be his greatest achievement, topping the last Ashes victory. Ricky himself has struggled in India and his success with the bat will probably be a key when it comes to determining the series.
