99 Check/Call 3 Streets, Bad?

UTG+1 is 36/8/2.1 over 100 hands. Check/calling three streets after raising pre-flop feels donkish, where did I go wrong? Thought it better to c/c flop didn’t want to get raised off the hand or get called and be in no mans land out of position on a blank turn. I think at the time my thought process was that I probably have the best hand, being raised would suck, I’ll just let him bluff worse hands and protect my equity.
