77 Two Barrels Against Weakness – Hand Of The Day

This hand is pretty standard, but something I probably wouldn’t have been doing earlier this year. I’ve learned to prey upon weakness a little more, and the right amounts to push and when. I had no stats on the villain up until this point, but he had been limping into a lot of pots (and I’d already raised over him a few times pre-flop).

Hero (CO): $125.90
BTN: $123.30
SB: $165.05
BB: $60
UTG: $97.40
UTG+1: $109.35
UTG+2: $93.85
MP1: $95.70
MP2: $101.50

Pre-Flop: 7 7 dealt to Hero (CO)
2 folds, UTG+2 calls $1, 2 folds, Hero raises to $5, 3 folds, UTG+2 calls $4

Pretty standard. Weak limper in front of me, I make my standard pre-flop raise in that situation. At this point I feel like his range is pretty wide, medium-low pocket pairs, suited connectors and probably some off-suit broadway hands as well.

Flop: ($11.50) 4 8 J (2 Players)
UTG+2 bets $3, Hero raises to $12, UTG+2 calls $9

He ‘donks’ $3 into an $11.50 pot. The flop is monotone, he could be doing this with a jack that he is unsure about or a big lone that he wants to try and draw cheaply with. This is nearly an automatic raise and i would say would be automatic if the board weren’t three-flushing. He calls, which doesn’t really change my impressions of his range.

Turn: ($35.50) 3 (2 Players)
UTG+2 bets $5, Hero raises to $25, UTG+2 folds

He ‘Donk’ leads again, he hardly ever has a strong hand here and now the pot has grown on the turn, I think I can raise him enough to scare him of whatever weak holding he has. If he calls here I probably shut down on the river, I can beat an unpaired naked flush draw, and i do have a flush draw myself so if the fourth hits I beat a non- J, but he folds and that becomes irrelevant.

Results: $45.50 Pot ($2.15 Rake)
Hero mucked 7 7 and WON $43.35 (+$21.35 NET)

It’s actually odd how many of these sort of players you come up against at these levels. Using aggression to pick up pots you otherwise wouldn’t really does add to your bottom line.
